The finished pendant bag..
Because I'm sure you're all just too excited to see this piece that took entirely too long with redos and all that.. Pattern kind of sort of included, but remember, I'm NOT a knitter. So.. it's the best I can do.

I used size 8 perle cotton, size 4/0 needles, and a hank of purple-y size 11 Czechoslovakian beads. (thank goodness for in browser spell checkers!)
How it really went.. string beads on cotton, plan out design.. cast on,realize that's a lot bigger then you want to go. Plan out design again. Cast on, realize that's smaller then you want. Cuss a lot. Make lots of odd sketches with | for knit stitches, X for columns of one bead, and O for the shaped columns of beads. Finally settle on 22 stitches. Start knitting again.. agonize over if you put enough beads on the thread, get nearly done, fold in half, realize you think it's too short.. debate if you can accept a bag that's not the shape you want, and if it's truly worth the time to frog half the stitches you spent hours on. Decide you have to or you'll never wear it, and it will wind up given to one of your Dad's friends if you don't get it just right. Frog. Pick up stitches, and realize you can't find your size 13 crochet hook, so you wind up picking up stitches with a needle and thread cussing up a storm because you've been watching Deadwood during most your knitting time, and some of the vocabulary on Deadwood suits your mood perfectly. Start knitting again, adding 7 more rows, get nearly done, notice a bead a broken, try to slip it off the thread, break the thread. Cuss some more. Frog to the beginning of that row, and take the opportunity to string on one more strand of beads from the hank just in case. Tie thread tightly with a tiny surgeon's knot. Keep knitting. Get to the flap, and try to figure out how to shape it properly given that you really can't knit and it's 10 pm AKST and no one you know who knits is online. Work on flap. Miscount stitches. Decide you dropped one. Say "MOTHERLOVEIT!" loudly, and watch your husband try to find the stitch on the floor when you say you dropped on. Think to yourself "Smart Donkey" since your daughter is on your case about saying ass, and has started saying smart donkey and dumb donkey instead. Finish. Sew up sides, go to bed. Wake up and start on strap.Wonder why anyone considers knitting restful.
Pattern: (all garter stitch. Because really? It's all I can do reasonably well)
String on 8 strands of bead from the hank by working a strand loose, tying the thread to your cotton, and sliding the beads down to the cotton. The beads are placed between stitches, and the number of stitches doesn't increase, the shaping is done by the number of beads between stitches.
Cast on 22 stitches, knit one row.

Row 112: knit across, cast off. Weave in ends

Fold so the cast on edge meets the row of plain knitting below the flap, right sides in (which means the side with the beads on the flap) basically, try to match up the beads. Sew edges, turn right side out. Get a good strong beading thread, I used Power Pro, and string a strap. Add a few beads to the point of the flap to give it some weight and hold it shut. Admire your necklace.
Stitching diagram if it's easier to follow then the written instructions.X are knit, O are beads. It's worked bottom to top.

It's lovely.

(And now you know why I gave away my 4/0 needles and swore I was never going to pick this up again!)
shala_beadsshala_beads on July 30th, 2008 12:35 pm (UTC)
*laughs* But I swore after my first netted amulet bag I'd never touch seed beads again, and we all know how that worked out!
Jadejadedone2many on July 29th, 2008 01:57 am (UTC)
Oooh, it's so pretty! Good job! :D

I would NEVER have the patience for that sort of thing! :)
shala_beadsshala_beads on July 30th, 2008 12:34 pm (UTC)
Thank you. :)
Actually, I work on them while watching tv, although.. if the weather were any kind of decent and I weren't hurting so badly.. there are a lot of things I'd rather do!

Re: Beaded Pendant urse
I'm so glad you liked it and were able to follow it. I love wearing mine to the knitting shop because even "real knitters" are always so impressed!

Bead knit pendant bags
I've knit over 100 of these guys--whoda thought! Either you love it or you don't. All the variations of thread and bead colors, different bead, and I designed a new necklace using wire so the breakage went down. I do love this!
