Writer's Block: Father figure
What's the most memorable piece of advice your father has shared with you?

"All they can do is kill me. They can't eat me."

The question was what was memorable. That's certainly memorable, but it never made sense to me, if they kill you, they could eat you, but they probably won't. He usually says it in a very cheerful voice when he's about to do something he really doesn't want to do. Or when he decides he's not doing something that he should do. I did ask him once "Don't you think if they kill you, they might be able to eat you?" and he said "Oh, no. I'm all gristle and a**hole. Nobody wants to eat that."

What makes more sense is this one...
"All they can do is kill you, but they probably won't do that."

I take that to mean to be willing to take risks and not be afraid of asking questions or looking foolish, because the worst they can do is probably not what they are going to do. After that, the worst that can happen is that someone tells you no, or you might look foolish, but you'll know, you'll have done whatever it is that there is to do.
